Why is the 2020 Federal W-4 Form not syncing over into Namely Payroll?
The data in the 2020 Federal W-4 Form should automatically sync over into Namely Payroll after the employee submits it; however, there are multiple scenarios where the syncing doesn’t occur, and you may receive an error message:
If you receive an error message that says Withholdings not applied, it is generally caused by an employee entering in a "0" in the field that only accepts the word Exempt (if applicable.):
Employees should refrain from entering anything in this field unless they are claiming to be Federal Exempt.
Other Common Errors:
-
The 2020 W-4 form is case sensitive, so employees must enter in their address accordingly.
-
The 2020 W-4 Form does not automatically calculate any amounts for the employee - they must do the calculations themselves. The amounts they enter in the fields will sync over into Namely Payroll just as they entered them. For example, if an employee leaves a field blank, it will sync over as $0.
Notes:
-
The only two options to rectify a 2020 W-4 Form with errors is to either have the employee redo the form, or you can manually update the fields on the employee’s Tax Record in Namely Payroll.
-
Tax unification does not work for employees who are active in multiple EINs.
-
Always use the Federal W-4 2020 (Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate) Agreement form. If you use the wrong 2020 W-4 form, it will not sync over into Namely Payroll.
