What do I need to do if I'm closing a tax account?

If you need to close an account with a Tax agency, you'll need to contact the Tax agency directly to notify them and follow any of their needed procedures to ensure your tax account has been closed properly. Once you receive confirmation that the account has closed, submit a case in the Help Community to advise us that we no longer need to file or remit taxes, as the account has closed.

You will also need to update your Tax Type within Namely Payroll, 
Company > Tax and add the effective End Date discussed with your tax agency.

If you're closing a withholding tax account (state or local), enter an 
End Date of the last day in the current year.

  • Example: If you're closing your withholding tax account in June 2021, you'll enter an 'End Date' of 12/31/2021.

If you're closing an unemployment tax account, enter an End Date of the last day of the current quarter.

  • Example: If you're closing your unemployment tax account in June 2021, you'll enter an 'End Date' of 6/30/2021.
