COVID-19 Iowa SUI Tax Deadline Extension

This guide will provide information on the Iowa SUI Tax Extension to help you submit a request in order to avoid penalties and interest.

Background

The State of Iowa has allowed a deferred due date of July 31, 2020 for 2020 Quarter 1 SUI Taxes in an effort to provide relief from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next Steps

If you'd like to request an extension, you must reach out to the Unemployment Insurance Tax division by calling 1-888-848-7442 or emailing Q1tax@iwd.iowa.gov before the new deadline of April 30, 2020 at 12 PM, in order to avoid penalties and interest.

Note: Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) recommends sending an email instead of a phone call due to the high call volume during this time.

You must also provide a copy of your correspondence with the State of Iowa to Namely for our records.

If you have already deferred your taxes prior to May 7, 2020, submit a case in the Help Community with a copy of the letter (if applicable), with the subject
Iowa Deferred State Taxes and the product name Payroll. If you haven't deferred your Iowa taxes as of May 7, 2020 and are interested in doing so, please provide a copy of the letter along with your tax deferral waiver.

Yes - once you have called or emailed the State of Iowa, please submit a case in the Help Community with the subject Iowa Deferred State Taxes and the product name Payroll.

We have not yet deferred our Iowa State Taxes with Namely, but will be doing so soon. How should we provide a copy of this letter to Namely?

If you haven't deferred your taxes as of May 7, 2020, provide a copy of the letter in our deferral form in order for us to defer any of your taxes.
