COVID-19 California State Tax Deadline Extension

This guide will provide information on the California State Tax Extension to help you submit a request in order to avoid penalties and interest.

Background

The State of California has allowed a deferred due date of June 30, 2020 for 2020 Quarter 1 State Taxes as part of relief efforts stemming from COVID-19. This includes State Income Tax, State Disability Insurance, State Unemployment Insurance, and Employment Training Tax.

Requirements

Companies are required to send a written request to the California Employment Development Division (EDD) before the new deadline of June 30, 2020, in order to avoid penalties and interest.

You can submit the request by using our below template header. You'll want to put it on your company letterhead, sign it and mail it to the California EDD.

If you have already deferred your taxes as of May 7, 2020, submit a case in the Help Community with the subject
California Deferred State Taxes and the product name Payroll. If you have not deferred your California taxes as of May 7, 2020, and are interested in doing so, please provide a copy of the letter to us along with your request.
