How do I reconcile NY SIT Box 16 wages between W-2 and W-3 forms?
The wages on these two reports might be out of balance because the W-2 form reports on all wages and the W-3 form reports on New York wages.
Our compliance team has confirmed that because W-2 and W-3 wages are not reported to New York by employers, this reporting is accurate and you should not experience any filing issues.
Box 16 in Form W-2
You are required to report all wages, including wages not earned in New York, on Box 16 of the Employee Form W-2.
TIP:
For New York SIT, Box 16 must equal Box 1 on the W-2 Form.
Box 16 in Form W-3
Only the wages that were earned in New York are reported on the W-3 Form totals.
