Can an international (non-US) beneficiary be added in Namely?

Yes, employees can add international beneficiaries within Namely. We recommend that the employee enter a "dummy" SSN for the international beneficiary and the employee's own address within the Enrollment Wizard

  • A "dummy" SSN typically consists of 9 repetitive digits- ex.: 999-99-9999 or 000-00-0000.

    TIP:

Always try to provide an SSN if possible to avoid downstream implications with carriers!

In the case of a newborn, some carriers will enroll the dependent under the mother automatically for the first 30 days and then auto-terminate if they don't receive a record with all the valid demographic information (including the SSN.) However, most carriers do not follow this practice meaning a valid SSN is required at the time of enrollment.

This also applies to manual portal entries as carriers will still require a valid SSN. Exceptions should be handled through your broker as they can help coordinate with the carrier to ensure enrollment.

Request a copy of the international beneficiary's identification card (passport or other country ID), as well as confirmation of the international address and to keep in the employee’s file in the case of a claim being filed. Please confirm with your broker if any additional information is required by the carrier.
