What employees does my COBRA feed send to NPM?

Regular hires and rehires will send on the NPM file for COBRA if they reenroll in the new hire life event.

In order for a terminated employee to send correctly on the file, there must be a termination date, eligible termination reason, and end-dated plan benefits.

Below are the eligible termination reasons. If a reason is not listed, the employee is not mapped to send on the feed:

Termination Reason

Event Name

Loss of Employee Coverage - Layoff

Termination for Cause

Loss of Employee Coverage - Termination

Deceased

Loss of Employee Coverage - Death

TIP:

A termination reason of Gross Misconduct will not be sent on the COBRA feed. Per the DOL, this reason is most often ineligible for COBRA. However, you can still elect to offer the benefit. If you decide to offer COBRA for someone terminated due to this reason, we recommend using a termination reason of Termination for Cause in order to transmit eligibility on the feed.

The feed will also send if an employee or dependent loses benefits via a life event. This typically happens if an employee is moving full-time to part-time, or a dependent overages.
