Managing New Hires during Open Enrollment
How to best handle new hires during your company's Open Enrollment.
OVERVIEW
The Enrollment Wizard enables your new hires to process their benefits whenever they have a New Hire event, but special care must be taken for this life event submitted during Open Enrollment to ensure a seamless process.
Tip:
Have employees that have processed their benefits changes based on a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) during Open Enrollment? Refer to Managing Qualifying Life Events During Open Enrollment for more information!
NEW HIRES
There is one Life Event that overrides Open Enrollment - and that is the New Hire event. If you have an employee whose new hire window overlaps with Open Enrollment, they'll be prompted to make their New Hire elections first. Once those elections are approved, they'll be eligible to enroll in Open Enrollment.
If the effective date of the employee's New Hire and Open Enrollment benefits differ, they should enroll in both the new hire event and your company's Open Enrollment to ensure they have no lapses in coverage.
For new hires that begin after your open enrollment is finalized, as long as you're a Benefits administrator, you will be able to extend their Open Enrollment period and finalize their elections without affecting other existing employee elections.
New Hires and Passive Open Enrollment
If your organization offers a Passive Open Enrollment, the new hire will be able to be passively enrolled. As soon as your new hires have completed their new hire elections, you will be able to auto-enroll them into plans and finalize their Open Enrollment.
Tip:

Open Enrollment cannot be finalized until all new hires have completed their New Hire elections. However, you will still be able to confirm elections and passively enroll all other employees except for those with incomplete new hire elections.
